Rays Advance to Round of 32 at 17u WWBA Championships

The NEB Rays recently returned home after a three-week trip, traveling to the 17u Music City Classic in Nashville, TN, 17u WWBA Elite Round Robin and the 17u WWBA Championships in Georgia. 

    The Rays capped off their journey down south with a terrific performance in Georgia. With both outstanding pitching and hitting throughout the lineup, the Rays finished 4-0 in the Elite Round Robin, finishing first among 34 teams competing. The Rays received quality help on the mound from pitchers Joe Sacco, Jared Schuster (Wake Forest) and Jared Wetherbee (Elon).  Christian Fedko (UConn) helped provide offense throughout the tournament for the Rays helping the team gain momentum moving towards the WWBA.

    The Rays continued their winning streak in the 17u WWBA Championships played throughout the Atlanta area. With 384 teams competing from throughout the country, the Rays drove through pool play finishing with a 7-0 record, including a stellar 4-1 win in a matchup of top teams within the pool vs. the Orlando Scorpions. Quality starts on the mound from Schuster, Wetherbee, Sacco, and Matt Tabor, the Rays held opponents to a total of 8 runs within pool play. The offense, led by Logan Bravo, Jared Shuster (Wake Forest) and Chris Lanzilli (Wake Forest) scored a total of 50 runs, contributing to the Rays pool victory and advancement to the playoff round. The Rays earned the 7th seed out of the 384 teams competing, receiving a first round bye in the playoffs.

    The Rays lost their final game 3-0 to Houston C2, but finished the WWBA Championship with a top 32 finish. The Rays concluded their Georgia trip with a total record of 11-1 while scoring 69 runs and giving up 16 runs!
